VSO String Quartet Halloween Family Concert: “A Symphony of Whales”

October 29 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

This kid-friendly concert includes an introduction of the instruments and several seasonally spooky selections.  The highlight of the performance is a narration with music based on the book, “A Symphony of Whales,” by Steve Schuch.  It takes its inspiration from a true story about whales stranded in the Siberian Sea, and the heroic efforts by villagers and a Russian icebreaker to free them.  Music plays a key role in the heartwarming rescue–and audience members get to participate in a crucial decision!  VSO String Quartet members are Sofia Hirsch and David Gusakov, violins; Hilary Hatch, viola; and Dieuwke Davydov, cello.  Our special guest narrator is Melissa Ewell, a music teacher from Swanton.  Enjoy this high-energy presentation, which includes a parade of costumes, and treats to take home afterwards!

Tickets for the FREE event are available after October 1, at the Haskell Free Library or the MAC Center for the Arts, Main Street, Newport VT.

Sponsors: Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Memphremagog Arts Collaborative, North Country Hospital, QNEK Productions, Heron’s Path, Price Chopper and Haskell Free Library, Inc.
